Welcome!
Hello! My name is Leela Golgolab. I am a K-2 ESL Teacher and a graduate student earning my Master's degree in Applied Technology in Education. I created this website to help K-2 educators develop the understanding they need in order to help their students become digital citizens.
Now you might be wondering, "Why do I need to teach my students about Digital Citizenship? They're so young!" As the virtual world continues to grow, so does our students' access to technology- both at school and at home. According to The Common Sense Census: Media Use by Kids Age Zero to Eight, 2020, 96% of 5-8 year old children have used a tablet or smart phone in some capacity (with 67% of children ages 5-8 owning their own device). In addition to mobile devices, many children also have access to computers and Smart devices (speakers, watches, TVs). It is crucial that we teach children about digital citizenship from an early age so that they can make responsible, reasonable, and safe choices online.

What is Digital Citizenship?"Digital Citizenship refers to the responsible use of technology by anyone who uses computers, the Internet, and digital devices to engage with society on any level." (Zook, 2019) Digital Citizenship, being such a broad term, is often broken down into smaller components. Mike Ribble has defined Nine Elements of Digital Citizenship, and on this site I will explore the concepts of Digital Access, Digital Health and Wellness, and Digital Etiquette for K-2nd grade students.
